A Futuristic Love Story Gone Awry :
After the initial excitement wears thin – and that happens quite swiftly – there is little substance to grasp, except for the noteworthy collaboration between Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon for the first time.
In a science fiction tale, the love story in “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” remains incomplete due to a malfunctioning robot. The film, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, doesn’t offer any meaningful discussion or understanding. It is disappointingly directionless and lacks substance. Written and directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah, for Maddock Films and Jio Studios, the film attempts to create a family drama image but falls short of success.
Inspiration from “I Am Your Man”:
The movie borrows elements from the German sci-fi drama “I Am Your Man,” released in 2021. The female lead in the film is involved in a research project, spending three weeks with a humanoid robot programmed to be a perfect companion, capable of empathizing with her every need, emotion, and impulse.
It wouldn’t be accurate to call “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” a copy of “I Am Your Man.” While the German film was a serious and intellectually intriguing romance, this film falls flat within its comedic and half-baked narrative.
Predictable Gender-Biased Narrative :
After setting aside the latest thoughts and, quite rapidly, there’s nothing substantial here, except that it marks the first collaboration between Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.
Beyond that, it’s a predictable and unnecessary gender-biased storyline, creating a super-robot programmed to dance to the tunes of its creator or owner, a submissive machine that follows orders and adheres to a disciplined system of starting or stopping based on a button press or a joke.
The characters used in the film perpetuate a cautious, unnecessary sexist narrative, resembling a chaotic blend between a serious drama and the whimsical shades of “Pyaar Ka Punchnama.”
A Delhi Boy’s Robotic Romance :
Aryan’s Unexpected Encounter-
The male lead, Aryan Agnihotri (Shahid Kapoor), a Delhi boy and a robotic engineer, is heading to the U.S. for a trip, which takes a turn for Sifra (Kriti Sanon). He is unaware of who the girl is until significant damage has been done.
Sifra is the ambitious creation of Aryan’s aunt, Urmila Shukla (Dimple Kapadia), who runs a successful robotics firm. Despite internally claiming that robots are meant to be companions for lonely hearts, the film fails to explain why a humanoid should obey the whims of its master or owner.
Aryan, despite being alone, rejects every girl chosen for him by his family, turning away even a qualified woman due to the perfectionist flaws in her work. However, a one-day trip with Sifra, the super-efficient caretaker robot at his aunt’s house, forces him to reconsider his views. Aryan’s life is never the same after that day.
Foolish Beginnings and Comedic Chaos-
“Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” begins foolishly and continues to get more foolish with each passing moment. With every passing moment, it becomes even more foolish when it touches the scrapes under the guise of a dream. Despite an affected but delusional Aryan unable to remove Sifra from his heart, he eventually realizes the machine’s true identity.
A robot left in a traditional Delhi home leads to comical situations. Still, the film remains steadfast in its stupidity. Gags fall flat, and one has to imagine scenarios for humor, but the harm of this loss is an unbeatable victory.
Aryan describes his family as a “classic Indian family.” Perhaps he may be right, as they are as confident and objectionable as he is. His grandfather (Dharmendra), ironically, seems the most amusing. Aryan’s parents (Rakesh Bedi and Anubha Fatehpuria), his slim aunt, and her husband (Grusha Kapoor and Brij Bhushan Shukla), along with an eccentric uncle (Rajesh Kumar), are variously stable and objectionable, having a say in Aryan’s personal decisions.
Cultural Expectations and Robotic Revelations-
Sifra faces inevitable challenges upon reaching Aryan’s home in Delhi. She is beyond the scope of his family’s expectations. She is fair and very beautiful, her skin flawless, and she can cook exceptionally well, too. She can sing and dance as well. Despite being from America, she is still culturally inclined.
For “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” to demand something from the “classic Indian family” – especially one allocated for popularity in Bollywood films – what can one expect from a potential bride? They all fall in love with the lady who can do no wrong.
Sifra isn’t free. She is ultimately a machine doing exactly what she’s been told, often needing recharging. Well, the family is happy with her until they discover her true identity.
Conclusion: A Flawed Experiment of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024):
All the songs, dances, and attempts at humor aside, “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” doesn’t deliver. The film is visually reminiscent of the chemistry between Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, but it fails to bring out their extensive deep connection. Instead, it’s a narrative aberration, wasting two and a half hours on a flawed experiment.
